The Story behind

Cuni, Voice assistant for Simplified Vaccination.
The vaccine process in Catalonia was very difficult due to the hit of COVID-19 and getting vaccinated was really important. We created a Voice Assistant that could manage the vaccination process for the people of Catalunya.

Context

Overview
We in a team of 3, we created a Voice Assistant Cuni to handle various tasks for COVID-19 Vaccination for Catalunya. We conducted User Research, Analysed the data, did stakeholder interviews, benchmarked the product and then created a feature matrix. Later we divided the features in 2 phases and started wireframing those features while maintaining a good user experience.
My Role
We worked in a team of 3 people where was my role was to handle the User flows and also construct the ecosystem based on the user research. My teammate David, worked on the visual aspects of design whereas Grace worked on the Feature matrix and also the site map, It was a combined effort.
Timeline
Over the 3 months timeline, we had 3 weeks of feedback sessions with our supervisor, Irene, CEO of AntonandIrene Studio, NY. We had roughly had 3 weeks of doing the research, benchmark and analysing the data together and then 3-6 weeks for creating user flows and wireframes.

Project Brief

What was asked?
To find a solution to vaccinate the People of Catalonia by carrying out a specific user research and implementing the analysis in design to create an amazing user experience.
The Challenge: To carry out a specific userflow with error states for 2 doses of the vaccine while keeping a good UX.
Categorization of our Users
  • Vaccination 35% of Catalonia Population via the App
  • Focus on age group 65+ and health care professionals
  • The Children of the Senior Citizen group who will be helping them sign up for the App

User Research

Ecosystem Analysis
To understand how we can implement Voice and defeat COVID-19, we took a step back and researched all the apps in the Catalan government's health digital space.

This specific type of study is called an ecosystem analysis.

This ecosystem is divided into three sections where the user can get information, track status, and take action regarding covid 19.

Benchmark Analysis
Before we dig more into the concept and the features, we need to figure out what's happening globally regarding COVID-19.

This research is called a benchmark analysis.

User Personas

User Interviews
After looking at the benchmark, we wanted to determine our potential users' feelings about the vaccination process. We interviewed 24 people, and we came up with four different user personas.
Personas are fictional characters that we created based on our research to represent the different user types that might use vacunitat.

Analysis

Analysing the Personas and Pain Points
From our personas' pain points, we can summarize that they all share worries about how the vaccination process is and the lack of specific and reliable information.

Besides that, the senior citizens with low device literacy require one-to-one assistance to perform mobile operations and some others would like to handle the vaccination for other people.

Sitemap

Created a Site Map
From all the data collected from our user personas and benchmark we created a sitemap as to how the user will navigate through the app.

The sitemap is divided in 4 different sections which are appointment, information, Community and Help.

What was asked?
We were requested to vaccinate 35% of the Catalan population targeting people 65+, their children and also healthcare workers.
how will we do it?
We will achieve it through our app, Vacunitat, Inspired by the use of voice as our main concept. With the help of Cuni, our voice assistant, we are finally helping my Mom and the rest of the Catalonian population.

Userflows

We spent hours on creating userflows of most of the inputs our users would give to Cuni to make the process super simple. We constructed multiple flows including error states and each appointment flow.

Wireframes

Low fidelity Wireframes
Based on all the research and analysis we did, we came up with simple wireframes from screen to screen and also created various flows and branches.
To make things more consistent we divided each task with a certain set of wireframe. Hence we had over 100 wireframes, here are a few of them.

Annotations

To hand the application, we created Annotations
Annotations allow UX designers to communicate to clients and developers why an interface element is placed in a specific location and what the interaction model is for the element. This establishes a clear information hierarchy for the design solution and creates a user flow that helps guide stakeholders through the road map of interactions to be translated into wireframes.
We had over 100 wireframes, here are a few annotations to have an idea.

  • Try to narrow down your scope sooner than later.
  • Focus on the MVP (minimum viable product) as your end result.
  • Working with design systems helps keep everything consistent throughout the projects.
  • Implementing feedback given by the supervisors help a ton while saving a lot of time and effort.
